Long-Term Travel Insurance
Study abroad, digital nomads, and extended trip coverage
University Health Plans Leave Students Dangerously Underinsured Abroad
Most university Student Health Insurance Plans (SHIP) provide limited or no international coverage — excluding routine care, ongoing prescriptions, pre-existing conditions, and mental health (often capped at 10–40 visits). J-1 visa holders must maintain minimum $100,000 medical, $50,000 evacuation, $25,000 repatriation coverage — failure means program termination with no reinstatement.
Common Misconception
My university health plan covers me abroad. Or: My J-1 program provides all the insurance I need.
